History of Allpress Antiques

Allpress Antiques, founded in the late 1980s in Melbourne, began as a home-based business. Jamie realised the need for a dedicated shop to grow and, in 1990, opened at 1425 Malvern Road with a single piece of furniture. The business quickly expanded, and by 1997, the showroom doubled in size by leasing the adjacent property.

In 2006, Jamie purchased the spacious showroom at 1419 Malvern Road. After a decade, in 2016, he sold 1419 and returned to the original premises at 1425, finding the downsizing beneficial. Despite having eight garages full of stock, the business continued to thrive, supported by a team of professional and pleasant staff. The owner values the strong network of trusted business associates both locally and internationally.

About Jamie

Now aged 57, I’ve spent 46 years in the antiques trade. My journey began at age 11 in the late 1970s, with an after-school job at a local antique shop during the May school holidays. Inspired by my boss, Mr. John Henry Walter Cockburn, I learned the trade of French polishing and quickly decided on a future as a dealer.

Balancing school and work, I was soon working 24 hours a week for one dollar an hour, solidifying my passion for the antiques trade. He enjoys meeting interesting people, all sharing a love for beautiful furniture and decorative items. I collaborate with decorators, architects, and film set designers, and assists customers in dressing homes for sale.

I’m also passionate about writing, ranging from children’s books to serious topics. I look forward to having more time to create and pursue my writing interests. My website features an archive of rare and interesting pieces collected over the last 25 years, with new items added regularly.
