A rare and unusual early 19th Century Japanese export writing box. This box is based on an English writing box, but entirely in Japanese style. The overall decorative chinoiserie birds and flora, mixed timbers and various styles of inlays. The interior having Japanned lacquered finish.

Note: Sectioned in Japanese manner, having a secret drawer to the right hand side of the original Japanese style brass securing pin.

William and Mary oyster veneered walnut & laburnum lace makers-trinket box. The hinged moulded top with oyster walnut veneers and geometric satinwood stringing with laburnum cross banding. Having an early red interior, the exterior is sections of vertical laburnum on a thumb moulded laburnum plinth base. 1680-1710
