A rare and unusual, early 20th century French walnut Art Nouveau open shelved sideboard.

THIS PIECE HAS BEEN SOLD

The beautifully grained thick moulded marble top, above three narrow moulded drawers, with intertwined grapevine brass handles, then two panelled doors with matching grapevine carvings and escutcheons, having the original brass shaped key.

Elegant design, inspiring the upcoming delightful Art Deco period.

An exceptional watercolour by Mali Moir.

In my opinion one of Australia’s most exceptional versatile artists. From botanicals to charcoals to portraits in any medium.

An unusually long 19th century French elm & oak farmhouse table.

The well patinated figured elm three plank cleated top, above one long oak end drawer

(notice the unusual construction of the drawer sides, joined through the drawer front, love this) retaining the original turned handle.

Having square chamfered legs, joined by rectangular stretchers.

Legs raised to modern height many years ago.

Note, in 33 years of business and 45 years in the trade, this is one of only a handful of original farmhouse tables I’ve sold, over 2.2m. Very scarce.

Early 19th century French sycamore and ash chopping block.

The thick, well worn, patinated single plank sycamore top, retaining the original steel strapping to one end, the free standing pointed corners showing the shrinkage of the timber over the centuries.
Raised on rectangular out-swept ash chamfered legs.

Pewter and pears always suit French provincial and period English oak and country furniture.
17th century Hendrick Draakestein, Kaida Leaf 1686 and three framed 19th century Wolters Pears 1880, hanging above.

Squeezed in a 19th century French elm trunk for a change.

Such an enjoyable part of my business, creating displays for the showroom and promoting my stock.

Unusual pair of 19th Century French Provincial Figured Walnut Bedside Tables

Notice the wonderful single plank backboards.
Exceptional, as they’re never seen.
Also the single plank doors.

Not the usual French bedside table at all.
Heavily carved, ormolu mounted bedsides aren’t my taste, thats why its unusual for me to have a pair.

Yet to be cleaned and re-wax finished.

Delivery of Decorative French Walnut Petrin

Last night I delivered this decorative French walnut petrin to one of my favourite customers.
Not the best lit apartment, so I included a photo from showroom. The piece certainly lifted her living room. Especially when we placed the two rare Masons plates I sold to her recently.
FYI, paintings above, Bowna NSW, Hilary Jackman 1989 Australia Club, 110 William St, Melbourne. Dora Wilson Girl With Dog,
Septimus Power (My favourite) love this one. In the entrance her portrait painted aged 23, by Paul Fitzgerald 1960
Had to share this, ‘with permission’ Such a wonderful painting.
I love seeing customers homes, you’d be amazed at how many beautiful, rare pieces I see throughout Australia.

18th century French walnut jardinier/Petrin/dough bin. The serpentine moulded sliding top, above the canted dough-bin.

The base having a long floral carved secret drawer, with matching carved lower stretcher and shaped side and rear stretchers.

Joined by turned legs, resting on scroll carved cabriole legs.

Fantastic overall faded colours and wonderful patination.

19th century French Provincial Oak side table.

The three plank front cross-banded top, probably taken from a front or top panel of an 18th century coffer or mule chest. In the country they made do with the materials they had on hand. That’s why some pieces are constructed using three – four different timbers. That’s what I love about country furniture, so many individual pieces.

The rectangular top, above a typically second half 19th century deep frieze, housing a think timbered pine lined drawer, with later but appropriate brass shield plate handles, covering the holes where the original turned wooden handles sat.
Resting on a square slight tapered leg.

The two plank top, above a continual ogee shaped skirt, resting on on a slight cabriole leg.

Great overall colour and patination, only 240 years can create.

Exceptional timber selection in this table. Many attractive knots and natural grooves to the base.
