A decorative 17th Century and later English William and Mary oyster veneered walnut chest of drawers.

Parquetry work of this kind, involving geometric designs made up from small oyster veneers, required a high degree of skill. Having later appropriate brasswork, sections of cross banding and mouldings, with bun feet.

A decorative 18th Century English oak chest of drawers.

The two plank moulded top above an applied front moulding with an ebony and fruit wood sunburst inlaid central door, flanked by two short above two long drawers having later but appropriate brass work. Having panelled sides and resting on shaped bracket feet.

Note: Originally the top had a linen press attached and were commonly referred to as a ‘Norfolk Chest’. They were used to store blankets, bed linen and table cloths while keeping them neatly pressed at the same time.

A late Georgian English oak cross banded chest of drawers of large proportions.

The well patinated two plank mahogany cross banded top with applied mouldings, above two short and four long cross banded graduated drawers. Having most of the original brassware, resting on bold shaped bracket feet.

Note: the overall mahogany cross banding is so well faded it blends well with the patchy oak.

A fine English William and Mary Walnut and marquetry chest of drawers

The quarter panelled book matched figured walnut top having seaweed style marquetry cross banding framed by deep walnut band, above applied mouldings and a secret cushion drawer, then two short and three long graduated drawers with figured and burr walnut veneers and matching cross banding, the drawers having period style escutcheons and patterned drop handles having unusual drop plates to protect the veneers. Having attractive book matched figured walnut sides with walnut cross banding and mouldings above matching the top cushion drawer. Resting on later shaped bracket feet.

Note: the top left drawer when removed reveals a sliding panel and a pair of secret drawers.
