Last quarter 18th century English tea/card table.

The single plank well faded hinged folding top, opening to a tea serving or card playing top.
Having a figured mahogany frieze with narrow card holding drawer, retaining the original brass swan-neck handle.
Resting on square tapered ogee-moulded legs. One hinged rear leg, supports top when in use.
Note: rarely are the opened tops as well faded as the closed. Indicates was very well used and loved.

Comprising of two armchairs and four dining, side chairs.

The shaped moulded top rail, having one classic Chippendale ears, flowing through to the fret carved centre splat, with tapered side supports, an upholstered drop in seat, above an ogee shaped rail, resting on stylish moulded legs, joined by an ‘H’ stretcher.

Good overall colour, still to be re-wax finished.

The beautifully patinated thick single plank cleated top, Above a plain moulded frieze, resting on baluster-turned legs, joined by the original worn side stretchers. Fantastic overall patina, with the initials T.A.S 19/7/13 to one end. Which century 1713, 1813 or 1913. This is French with strong English Hepplewhite influences.

Over the years I’ve sold many, usually slight or profusely carved.

This example has elegant modern like lines, beautifully worn and patinated. All original brass-work.

The standout piece in a modern apartment living room, entrance or hallway. Stunning lines indeed.

As I said, usually carved, also usually much larger proportions.

These chairs are around 100 years old. The 20s was a huge revival period.

They have Queen Anne rear shaped splats and shaped top rails 1705.
George I and George II cavletto style moulds 1714 – 1740
all blending so well.

Would you believe I used bitumen to build this beautiful walnut/period oak colour.
A long, complicated, somewhat monotonous restoration job indeed!

A most beautiful 19th century French green chinoiserie display cabinet of narrow proportions

The rectangular moulded top, above two long hinged doors, opening to reveal a cord covered interior, with a small light above each shelf.

The doors having a double throw lock.

With narrow glassed viewing sides, resting on short turned tapered legs.

Classic chinoiserie design overall. Notice the designs flow between joins, incredibly stylish always.

Chinoiserie style started in the early 17th century throughout Europe. The word derives from “chinois” French for Chinese.

European designers imitated the fanciful decorative designs on Chinese silks, art, lacquerware and furnishings.

The style has never fallen from grace. The Queen Anne period in the early 18th century was one of the most chinoiserie desired periods. Over the past three and a half decades in business, I have sold dozens of chinoiserie decorated pieces, from silk and rice paper art, to folding lacquered screens (two over the past year) many hanging bow-shaped hanging corner cupboards, desks, chairs, Chinese export sewing tables (two in storage)

The thing about a beautiful decorative chinoiserie piece is, there is only ever room for the one piece in your room. That one piece sits there either demanding attention or quietly rests saying, look here I am, you can’t beat my style and colouring, so take a seat and enjoy me.

Over the past few years since selling our family home and sizing down to an apartment, I’ve sold much of my private collection. Some I sold long before I moved, and since I moved, that’s progression and continually upgrading my surroundings. These are a few pieces I’ve reduced to under 50% of their value. Now in my warehouse and only a small display area for private viewings, I’ve made the decision to let a lot go, even the rest of my private collection Before I moved shop in June, I even sold my complete Draakestein collection, ten in total went back to the UK, as much of my stock has over the decades, as dealing in rare items there’s always an international demand. Note: the surrounding pieces and art in my home and showroom have all sold, even the ceramics!! The very long French buffet below the Atamja painting, the farmhouse table, harlequin set of country chippendale chairs and pair of bog-oak side chairs all sold within weeks of placing onto the market.
