Valerie was born on the 14 September 1929. She grew up in Wright Street, Middle Park, and attended the Brigidine Convent, Kilbride, on Beaconsfield Parade.

As a young women she demonstrated prodigious artistic talent and studied under Archie and Amalie Colquhoun, contemporaries of Max Meldrum and later, at the National Gallery School under Sir William Dargie, eight times winner of the Archibald Prize for portraiture.

An Exceptionally Rare 19th Century French Gothic Revival Solid Pollard Oak Poudreuse – AA1867

The moulded cantered hinged top, having a deep leaf carved Oak centre plaque, lifting to reveal a silk-lined interior (once divided).

A hinged mirror opening to reveal a burgundy leatherette storage area.

The base having Gothic style carvings overall, resting on rectangular block feet, having the original inverted steel rotating castors.

Extremely Rare Art Deco Bronze Sculpture “Terns in Flight’ – Irenee Rochard – 1935

Exceptional large desktop sculpture of two terns in flight above cresting waves 1935 by the acclaimed French animal sculptor Irénée Rochard (1906-1984).

Crisply cast in spelter with good detail (note the feathers and feet) and a bronze coloured finish, on an oval black marble plinth base.

Signed clearly ‘Rochard’. Excellent original condition. Note the two birds detach from the wave for delivery.
