18th Century English Country Oak Chest of unusually small proportions

A rare find indeed, another recent private purchase.

18th Century English country oak chest of unusually small proportions.

The well patinated moulded top, above two short and three long graduated cock-beaded drawers, all retaining the original brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons. Resting on low shaped bracket feet.

Fantastic overall colour and patination.

Featuring one of the best 18th Century English oak dressers I’ve stocked. with my favourite of all Mali Moir’s charcoals of a Cape Warthog.

I’ve always loved mixing old with new, especially when both are the best of the best.

Late 19th Century European Majolica Jardinière-Vase

Late 19th century European Majolica Jardinière-Vase.

Stunning colours and design.

Majolica originated 14th Century Italy, around 1370, Tuscany and Umbria.

Over the years I have sold hundreds of English and French Green Majolica plates and the likes. Rarely have I stocked the more Italian style.

Personally, I love this vase.

This piece of art could sit on any surface, period to modern and oozing style.

Late 19th Century Kenyan Carved Ancestral Female Figure

Late 19th century Kenyan carved ancestral female figure, on later stand.

Interestingly, the head is completely free from woodworm.

Parts of the body, well eaten over the years.

Timber’s in one piece can vary.

Sapwood is always devoured by woodworms, the harder grain is usually untouched.

Possibly a fertile blessing given to a woman, showing the beauty of an African female figure, ready to bear children.
