Lacquers can rarely be saved and usually too dark to bother trying.
In these cases we hand strip the lacquer, clean surface, mix a base stain,
this time using “bitumen” a little trick I thought I’d share.
Re-french polish, then cut back and wax finish to soften shine.
Afters then before’s of a now attractive 19th century English mahogany lowboy/side table.
Having a cross-banded top with ebonised stringing inlay.
Was very sun damaged and patchy on arrival, as you can see in last photos.
This was a restoration job for customers.

These chairs are around 100 years old. The 20s was a huge revival period.
They have Queen Anne rear shaped splats and shaped top rails 1705.
George I and George II cavletto style moulds 1714 – 1740
all blending so well.
Would you believe I used bitumen to build this beautiful walnut/period oak colour.
A long, complicated, somewhat monotonous restoration job indeed!

Keeping Lydia Ciconte’s ‘Bush Fire Burning’ in the entrance, above the mid 18th century
English oak low dresser.

So glad I never sold this fantastic original 70s French Retro optic fibre lamp many years ago.
Something made me keep it✨
The well patinated two plank moulded top, above two short and three long
graduated fruitwood lined drawers, surrounded by half round mouldings,
double panelled sides, resting on the original turned bun style feet.
Later decorative brass work.
