Re waxing this magnificent second half 17th century English oak refectory table.

Re waxing this magnificent second half 17th century English oak refectory table.

This English refectory dining table was made between 70 and 30 years before Captain James Cook was born.

Thats something interesting to think about.

I spent most of today re waxing this magnificent second half 17th century English oak refectory table.

Incredible what a good wax can achieve.

The thick single plank, cleated top, on baluster turned legs, joined by well worn stretchers.

I sold these to good customers twenty years ago.
They are now moving and need to sell.
I’m always happy to re sell rare items I’ve handled over the past four decades, as they’re so hard to find.

One of my close local friends I’ll miss once I close shop.

Connections from all walks of life. Completely different up bringings but many similar life experiences.
Love chatting with Abe.
You will be missed my dear friend and confidant ✨

It’s great to finally be closing. Something I started ten years ago when I sold my shop and sized down to where I started over 35 years ago.

19th century French copper and iron cauldron, of large proportions.

I love the natural oxidisation on this beautifully maintained piece.
Could be cleaned and polished up, but not by me..
I bought this from Gary Kay, Antique Decor, High St, Armadale some years ago and found hiding in my storeroom recently.
So I thought to do a post on my Copper, Bronze, Pewter, Brass, Spelter and pressed metals around my showroom today.

Holidays nearly over, that’s enough relaxing time, now work…

Seeing I’m finally closing my shop, end of April, after 35 years, I thought I have plenty of time once closed…
Not that I’ll be sitting still! I’ll probably do the odd pop up shop around Australia, would be great to finally do one in Sydney after having this suggested since I attended antique and art fairs over the decades..
Had such a strong following in NSW, so I may reacquaint.
Besides I’ll be spending a lot more time in Sydney from now on, I’ll be working on writing (that’s my destiny) but retailing is part of my blood!

Stopped by a customer’s the other day to see some restoration work.

Had a great chat and as always I admired their beautiful home, garden and trees.
They kindly gave me these giant squash to use in a shop display.

Thank you Rachel and Andrew.

New additions to my aesthetic home display

A while ago a friend with the same deep love of beautiful objects told me the term that describes us “aesthete” once reading the definition, I felt complete ✨

Objects such as, Architecture, Trees, Decorative Arts, Period Oak, 16th – 20th century art, Contemporary art, Women, Gardens, Music, Flowers, Personalities, Views etc…. I could go on and on!

A couple of new additions to my home display. A contemporary green and blue glass sculpture and an unusual Nouveau green glass and pewter jug.

Some would say Noice✨

Retouching a damaged dining table

Retouching a damaged dining table

Called into a customer’s home today to touch out some damage on their dining table.

Didn’t have a busy day planned, so a little colouring therapy did me well. As did my very nice customers and their beautiful home.
I certainly get to see some of the finest homes within Australia over the years.

Still a couple of weeks of holidays, but pop into showroom at times as not always away…
